"Make it happen"

It's the first Tuesday of the year and the first day back to work for the majority of people. Google is soaring with summer ambition and the travel sites are having a hot flush of sales, my message for you today is 'make it happen'. It doesn't matter if the only thing you mean to do this year is going to take place December 31st, put it into practise and decide to do it. No plan should be perfect, just foreseeable. And... Happy New Year! Here's to another trip around the sun with a slightly more aged perspective (if we were wine, we would be declaring ourselves delicious), with the sales upon us, it really is a good time of year to book that dream flight. Be willing, be daring and grab the cheap deal while it's there! Here are a few mini-tips for the January travel sales:

- Prowl around:

Check out sites like SkyScanner to look across the broader spectrum of prices but be aware that sales can make locked in prices go quickly and sites like these can lag a bit. - Be Loyal:

If you are looking for a deal check with the companies you are already used to, there is a chance you could have an exclusive offer (check your e-mail) or some saved points to get extra money off! (Ryan Air sales are always worth a peak: their on-board baggage allowance includes room for a 35L hiking pack with the addition of an extra, very small, handheld bag!) - Don't ask, don't get:

Tweet, status, ask friends and pally up! If you don't have any offers to indulge on in your own inbox there's a chance someone else might; an invite from one of your friends could save you bundles! (check out my post on AirBnB). - Package/ Adventure travel:

Be aware the complete package job holidays (a guaranteed job is not always actually guaranteed!) My best advice about adventure travel is to know your limits. If you do it all by yourself, it doesn't necessarily mean you will save money if you don't execute it properly. Weigh up how you want be adventurous. It's always good to ask the advice of others if you know they've been on similar trips. Flights are one thing, but package holidays are another; remember only fools rush in! That being said, make a decision and stick to it, even if that decision is to think it over in a month or two. If you have the cash spare though, go on and treat yourself! Use that Christmas money on yourself for a change! (Check out workaway for some cheaper alternative volunteer opportunities or couchsurfing for alternative accommodation)

- Ask Me! (on CompassKeen/ Twitter/ Facebook or Instagram) If you really would like any extra advice, I am willing to help (if I can). I have hitch-hiked/ car shared/ couchsurfed/ wwoofed/ workaway'd/ AirBnB'd/ Camped/ bussed/ cycled across boarders and even if I don't know I might know someone who does. The best thing about travel is the community which is built around it, never be afraid to introduce yourself :)

Go make it happen!
